It's easy to tell if your Dymo labels are compatible with the new 5 series printers

The new Dymo LabelWriter 5-series (LabelWriter 550, 550 Turbo & 5XL) have a new feature called Automatic Label Recognition. This new feature allows the label printer to talk to the label roll so you'll know which labels (by size, type, and color) are loaded into the label maker at a glance. You’ll also know how many labels are remaining, so you'll never run out mid-job.

It's a cool feature, but it only works with labels manufactured from mid 2020 onwards.

Now, you might have some old labels lying around that aren't compatible with the new printers, so here's how you can tell if your old labels will be compatible or not.

On the old labels, the label core is made from cardboard, and is brown on the inside. On the new labels, the core is brown but on the inside you'll see a white liner with the Dymo logo printed in blue (there is also a crossed-out image of a trash can in blue).

It's that simple, but if you are in doubt, you can call Labelcity or Dymo and we'll do what we can to help out.
