Using 'cheap' labels in your Dymo LabelWriter can cause serious internal hidden damage,
and your warranty being voided.
A Dymo LabelWriter is a precision piece of equipment and should be 'fed' labels that are fully compatible and approved by Dymo.
All labels sold on this website are fully tested and approved by Dymo and will not cause damage or void warranty.
Labels aren't Labels ! - there is a difference. We have been selling labels for Dymo & CoStar LabelWriters for over 16
years and have never had a warranty voided on a customer's printer.... that's because we only sell labels
that have been tested and approved by Dymo, and they meet or exceed all material specifications.
There are a number of label manufacturers who are selling out-of-spec labels for Dymo LabelWriters at cheap prices, but they do not inform
you that their offerings fall outside the material specifications set by Dymo, nor do they tell you that their labels have not
been tested or approved by Dymo.
The damage caused by cheap alternative labels is 'hidden'. That is, you can't see the damage that is being done until it's too late. The printhead on a
Dymo LabelWriter is rated at 2,000,000 inches of printing (that is more than 570,000 address labels) but only if you use labels that meet the material
specifications set by Dymo (Dymo labels and Labelcity labels both fall in this category). This can be severly reduced by using inferior labels
which can jam or damage the printhead, and can cause the gears on the motor to slip and be stripped.
These 'cheap' labels do not conform to strict specifications required to guarantee the longevity of a LabelWriter
and to keep it's warranty intact. Typical characteristics of out-of-spec 'cheap' labels that can cause
damage include:
- using the wrong paper thickness will cause the motor in the LabelWriter to work at a different speed than specified and can cause gears to strip
- using the wrong thermal coating (smooth/coarse, gloss/matt) can result in the roller mechanism having too much grip or too little grip and again can cause the motor gears to work overtime and strip
- bleeding of glue onto the printhead by using the wrong glue formula can lead to the roller mechanism being 'glued up' and stop completely, or become harder for the motor to turn. Again this can lead to motor gears stripping
- another common issue experienced with using the wrong glue formula is that labels can peeling off the liner while inside the printer and jam the printhead
- inappropriate winding tension of labels on the roll can again cause the motor to work 'overtime' and result in stripped gears
- out of spec liners (the waste paper on the back of the label) can be too grippy or slippery (just like the thermal coating mentioned above) and result in an over worked motor... and stripped gears
- corrugate cores not meeting material standards (wrong size/width) can leave residue inside the printer, or 'throw' labels out of alignment
We recommend that you only ever use genuine Dymo Labels and genuine Labelcity Labels in your LabelWriter, both of which meet or
exceed all LabelWriter specifications, have never caused damage to a printer nor voided even one warranty, and have been fully tested and approved by Dymo Corporation.
Labelcity only sells these two brands, so buying your LabelWriter labels from Labelcity, Inc. is a guarantee that you will never
suffer damage caused by inferior labels, and your warranty will never be voided.
