Tip : Make a 'This Way Up' label with the Dymo Address Label

A Dymo LabelWriter is a very versatile label printer, enabling you to print everything from Address and Shipping labels, right through to Name Badges and Jewelry Labels. Labels come in pre-cut sizes and you don't necessarily need to use say an 'Address' labels for printing Addresses. Your can use it for whatever purpose you like. That's what we did today. We used the Dymo Address Label 120350 / 30252 to create what is called a 'This Way Up' labels.

If you have bought a fragile or bulky item recenty (TV, Washing Machine, Dryer, Mirror, etc) you may have noticed a number of different symbols printed on the outer carton. One symbol which is very important in many cases is the 'This Way Up' symbol. This is, as the name suggests, used to indicate correct upright position of the transport package. Some items are just meant to be a certain way up, and can be damaged in transit if they are laid flat or upside down.

Making a 'This Way Up' is simple with the Dymo LabelWriter. As mentioned, we used the Standard Dymo Address Label (referred to as 30252 / 120350, 30251 / 120130 or 30320 / 120260). To make the label we used Dymo's free DLS software. The steps we used are as follows:

  • Select the correct label template from the Label tab (Address, 1-1/8" x 3-1/2")
  • On the Insert tab we dragged the 'This Way Up' symbol to the template from the Clip Art section
  • Drag a Text box onto the label template from the Label Objects section and enter the desired text (you can then modify the text size, weight, font)
  • Reposition the Symbol and Text to the appropriate areas of the template
  • Print the Label(s)

The process took less than minute, and for experienced users of Dymo's software, this should take around 30 seconds. Labelcity stocks all Dymo LabelWriter models in our East Coast and West Coast warehouses, as well as the full range of Dymo LabelWriter Label Supplies.
