Tech : Dymo LabelWriter LED Light Status

The Dymo LabelWriter is a complex little label printer yet it doesn't have a lot of buttons. In fact, it only has 2. And as for lights, there's only one LED. But the single light it does have can tell us a lot about what is happening with the LabelWriter

Before we explain the different light statuses, let's explain what the buttons do first, because they can help us rectify issues you may have. The most visible button is the 'form-feed' button which is located on the front of the LabelWriter, just below where the labels come out once they are printed. The form-feed button is what you press if you want to advance a label through the printer. The other button is under the hood and it is called the 'eject' button. You use this to back the labels out of the printhead so you can remove the roll and replace it with a different one.

Let's skip ahead to the LED light and discuss what it's statuses may mean:

- Solid Blue Light - power is on and printer is ready

- Flashing Blue - labels not loaded correctly/straight or no labels loaded

- Dimmed Blue - printer is in power saving mode

If you have a flashing light on your LabelWriter and there's labels loaded in it, the labels may be loaded on an angle. To fix this, you could try pressing the form-feed button to feed a label through which may have the effect of straightening up the roll. Alternatively, you could press the eject button to back the labels out, then re-feed the labels in again
